Congratulations to Quantcore on winning this year’s qBIG prize. We’re proud to support this award alongside the Institute of Physics, and it’s fantastic to see a company doing such important work in superconducting quantum hardware recognised in this way.
Quantcore, a spin-out from the University of Glasgow, is developing processors, resonators and sensors using niobium-based components that can operate at higher temperatures than many materials used elsewhere in the industry. That’s the kind of practical, physics-led innovation that moves quantum technology closer to real world deployment, and exactly what the qBIG prize was set up to celebrate.
It’s also worth noting the strength of the wider shortlist this year. Mater AI and Skydiamond both showed real commercial momentum, and seeing this calibre of finalist is a strong signal for where UK quantum is headed.
Well done to Jack Brennan and the whole Quantcore team, and to co-founder Wridhdhisom Karar who represented the company on the day. We’re looking forward to seeing what you build next, and to continuing our support through mentoring and business development as part of the prize.

£260 million. The largest quantum Series C ever raised anywhere in the world. That’s what our portfolio company Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), announced this week — and we couldn’t be more proud. As one of the few VC firms in the world solely dedicated to quantum technology, moments like this are exactly why we do […]
